DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's soccer team celebrated senior night with a 1-0 win over Lynn, Saturday at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium. Saturday's victory saw the Blue and Gold notch its seventh shutout of the year, and improved the team's overall record to 8-3-1.
Prior to the contest, seniors
Andrea Froshaug,
Gudrun Johnson,
Isabelle Haaranen,
Johanna Karlsson,
Tiffany Larsen and
Hanna Rolfsen were recognized for their contributions to the ERAU women's soccer program throughout their collegiate careers.
It was a pair of seniors that accounted for the lone goal of the night, which came early on in the contest. In the third minute, the Eagles won the first corner kick of the night and Haaranen volleyed home Johnson's delivery from the left side to put the Eagles up 1-0.
While both sides enjoyed some possession throughout the course of the game, it was the Eagles who had more opportunities to score, outshooting the Fighting Knights 12-5. ERAU goalkeeper
Fanny Kristiansson turned back both Lynn shots on frame, but the Fighting Knights' Alexa Downie got some help from the woodwork as two shots by Froshaug glanced off the crossbar, including a strike in the 53rd minute that bounced straight down but managed to stay on the wrong side of the goal line.
Kristiansson finished with two saves, while Downie pulled in five saves for Lynn who moved to 3-8-2 with the loss.
"Tonight was a great testimony to the strength of our conference," ERAU Head Coach
Samantha Bohon said. "For Lynn to be at the bottom and still be as talented as they are really says a lot. I think Cally [Morrill] has a good group and they played some good soccer tonight. We've started the last few games well and couldn't manage to capitalize. Tonight, we finally got an early goal. It was also gratifying to see two seniors connect for the goal on Senior Day. I think our players would agree it wasn't our best performance but it's nice to find different ways to get a result. We have two good conference teams remaining, so we still have some work left to do."
The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Lakeland for a 7 p.m. tilt against Florida Southern.
