WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's soccer team fell to the Rollins Tars 3-0 on Sunday. The Tars' overall record improves to 8-6-2 while the Eagles drop to 2-9-3.
Richard Dearle was between the bars for the Eagles saving three shots by the Tars.
The Eagles hard work produced more back-and-forth action than they have seen early on in previous matches. Rollins tallied eight shots while the Eagles were able to get off five in the first half. Overall the Tars only outshot the Eagles 18-11.
Rollins took the lead in the 13
th minute after a free kick by Jordan Cole crossed the box to Cyrus Siminou who shot a line drive straight into the net.
Knutur Bjornsson battled a Tar defender in the 19
th minute to earn a scoring opportunity but the defender kicked the ball out of play, giving ERAU a corner kick taken by
James Pass which yielded no results.
The Tars built their lead to two in the 23
rd minute when a header deflected off of the bar and was rebounded by ERAU's
Felix Lohmeyer who was not able to get the ball off before it was stolen and put in the net by Tosan Popo.
The second half began with strong defense played by both teams allowing limited shots. Nets remained empty until the 67
th minute when RC's Stefan Avram went one-on-one with Dearle and was able to slot it into the corner to bring the score to 3-0.
Embry-Riddle had ample scoring opportunities but could not convert their possessions to put themselves on the scoreboard. The Eagles' best chance came in the 84
th minute when
Christian Mather took a penalty kick but was not able to get past RC goalkeeper Drew Trautmann ending the game in a 3-0 loss for the Blue and Gold.
The Eagles return to action Friday November 4 and Saturday November 5 for the Embry-Riddle Invitational. The Eagles are scheduled to play Spring Hill at 6:30 p.m. on Friday and Emmanuel at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday
