LAKELAND, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle volleyball team fell in straight sets (25-13, 25-21, 26-24) to Florida Southern on Friday night. The loss puts the Eagles' season mark at 13-13, while FSC improves to 18-9.
Asya Oguz had a team-high 11 kills and hit .429 while
Amanda Saunders had six kills and a team-leading 16 digs.
Jordan Nakayama tallied 22 assists and 14 digs as the team's primary setter.
The Mocs used a 7-1 run to take control of the first set, pulling out to a 12-6 lead. The FSC advantage ballooned to double-digits at 20-10 and ERAU couldn't find its footing, falling 25-13 in the opening frame.
Set two saw the Blue and Gold stay close throughout the frame, and the Eagles held a lead as late at 18-17 before the Mocs came back to take the lead for good as part of a 5-1 run. FSC won nine of the last 12 points in the set to win it 25-21, taking a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third set, Florida Southern jumped out to an early 6-2 lead before an
Olivia Roa kill sparked a 4-0 run to draw the Eagles even at 6-6. The Mocs quickly regained an 11-8 lead and built it to as many as six points (19-13). The Blue and Gold cut the margin in half (22-19) and then fought off five straight match points to make it a 24-24 score, but the Mocs won the final two points they needed to finish off the 3-0 sweep.
The Eagles wrap up the road portion of the 2016 season tomorrow afternoon with a 4 p.m. contest at Eckerd.
