No. 14 Nova Southeastern Proves too Much for @ERAUWBasketball in 75-52 Win

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The 14th-ranked Nova Southeastern women's basketball team shot 51 percent from the field and recorded 23 assists on 25 made field goals in the Sharks (21-4) 75-52 win over Embry-Riddle on Wednesday evening. The Sharks used big second and fourth quarters to send the Eagles (6-17) to their fifth straight loss.

The home team shot just 34 percent on the night, and attempted just two free throws while the Sharks turned 20 ERAU turnovers into 23 points, going 17-for-23 at the line with four players reaching double-figures offensively.

A Mercedes Jorge three and Tara Fields free throw gave ERAU a 10-6 lead at the 3:46 mark of the first quarter, but the Sharks responded with a 9-2 run over the closing minutes of the opening period to take a 15-12 lead after one.

The Eagles had no answer for NSU's inside offense as the Sharks blitzed the Blue and Gold 23-12 in the second quarter, including 14 points in the paint to take a 38-24 lead into the lockerroom. Kayla Wright had 12 points to lead the Sharks while Taylor Buie scored 11 points, including three triples, in the first half.

Embry-Riddle got to within nine points on a Kalah Martin layup at the 4:54 mark of the third quarter, but again, the Sharks made a run, turning their 42-33 lead into a 54-40 cushion heading into the fourth quarter as Molly Blomer hit a triple with seconds left in the third quarter for the 14-point advantage.

Nova Southeastern ended any ERAU comeback hopes with a 21-12 fourth quarter, answering every Eagle bucket with one of its own.

Martin was the lone Eagle to reach double-figures, scoring 10 points with five assists and two steals. Jorge added nine points with eight rebounds and both Lauren Ellenberger and Field had seven points for the Blue and Gold.

Embry-Riddle travels to Florida Southern on Saturday for a 5:30 p.m. tip against the Mocs in Lakeland.
