@ERAUSoftball Picks Up Two Wins Over Dominican

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle softball team swept Dominican College in a doubleheader on Tuesday night. The Blue and Gold won by scores of 10-2 and 8-5. Raquelli Bianco picked up her fourth win of the season in the circle in game one as the Eagles bested the Chargers in five innings. In the second game, Kassidy Simons recorded her first collegiate win, pitching six innings, striking out four and hitting a home run as well.

Game 1 - ERAU 10, DC 2 (5 inn.)
The Eagles started game one strong, getting on the board early. Bianco found first base on a walk and scored on a double from Simons in the next at bat. Robi Zimmerman then drove in Simons on a single to right center field.

However, the Chargers battled back to tie the game in the top of the third inning. Shannon Haukap hit a lead off single before Elontay Collins hit a home run to dead centerfield.

The home side didn't let the tie last long, scoring six runs, five of which were unearned in the bottom half of the inning. The Eagles took advantage of six errors by Dominican, as the Eagles were gifted four infield hits to take the 8-2 lead. Bianco scored the only earned run of the inning, getting on base with a double to left center field. Simons then picked up another RBI, driving in Bianco on a single up the middle.

Embry-Riddle was able to enforce the run rule by getting two more across the plate in the bottom of the fourth inning. Bianco singled up the middle and stole second base before Simons once again drove her home on her second double of the afternoon. Zimmerman then singled up the middle to send Simons home for the 10-2 advantage.

Simons went a perfect 3-for-3 in the game with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored. Bianco was 2-for-2 with a walk, driving in one RBI and pitching the complete game for the Blue and Gold.

Game 2 - ERAU 8, DC 5
The Eagles picked up the first score of the second game, driving one run in the bottom of the second inning. Zimmerman led off with walk and advanced to third on a passed ball and an infield groundball from Haleigh Lewis. Hannah Thomas picked up the RBI in the inning with her first collegiate hit, a single just over the outstretched glove of the Charger second baseman, Victoria Brooks.

Dominican evened the score line in the top of the third with a two-out rally. Haukap reached on a single up the middle. Up next, Emily Luzetsky found first on a throwing error by Thomas, advancing to second on the play. Haukap made her way around the bases to tie the game at one apiece. The Chargers looked to score more runs as Collins singled up the middle in the next at bat but Kailah Rain threw a bullet to catcher Gabriela Obia to take out Luzetsky at home plate for the final out of the inning.

The game remained tied until the Eagles got a lead off double by Natalie Morales in the bottom of the fourth. Battison then reached on a bunt and promptly stole second to move into scoring position. Rain drove in Morales and Battison with a double to left center in the next at bat. Bianco then hit into a double play but Simons followed that up by blasting her second home run of the year over the left center field fence to up the Eagle lead to 4-1. Zimmerman then followed with a double to center field and scored on an illegal pitch. Lewis reached first on the same illegal pitch and was driven in by Victoria Reed on a double hit to the fence in left field.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Eagles added two more runs, taking an 8-1 lead. Morales led off with a hit for the second inning in a row, this time a single to right field. Rain reached on an infeld single and Bianco loaded the bases with a walk. In the next at bat, Simons drove in two runs with a single up the middle.

Dominican tried to make a comeback, scoring two runs in the top of the sixth and the seventh. An unassisted double play by Zimmerman at third base in the sixth helped the Eagles out of a bases loaded jam there. Zimmerman then struck out the tying run in the top of the seventh to end the game.

Simons recorded her first collegiate win for the home side, striking out four, she also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run and 3 RBIs. Rain, Zimmerman, Reed and Morales all hit doubles in the game with Morales going 3-for-4 and scoring twice.

The Eagles go on the road for the first time this weekend. The Blue and Gold travel to face No. 14 Florida Tech in a three-game series that gets underway Friday with a single game at 2 p.m.
