DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle softball team turned in a pair of solid performances on Monday by winning both ends of a doubleheader against visiting Concordia College from Moorhead, Minnesota. The Eagles were able to run-rule the Cobbers in both contests winning by scores of 8-0 and 13-0. ERAU's pitchers were dominant on the day, limiting Concordia to a total of six hits in the shutout wins while racking up 13 strikeouts. In game two, the Eagles hit three home runs.
Raquelli Bianco hit two of them with
Anna Battison crushing the third over the left field fence for a grand slam. The wins improve ERAU's season record to 11-5, while the Cobbers drop to 5-5.
Game 1 - ERAU 8, CC 0 (6 inn.)The Blue and Gold got on the board first as
Robi Zimmerman drove in
Kailah Rain and
Kassidy Simons with a two-run double. Rain secured a triple earlier in the inning and
Kassidy Simons reached first by being hit by a pitch.
The Eagles were able to load the bases in the bottom of the third and have a runner reach third base in the bottom of the fourth but was unable to get one across the plate until the bottom of the fifth inning when
Haleigh Lewis hit a bases clearing double to score three runs. She drove in Bianco, who reached on a single, Simons, who walked, and Zimmerman, who was hit by a pitch.
Gabriella Obia then drove in Lewis on a single through the left side to put the Eagles up 6-0. The home side had a chance to end it right there as they loaded the bases for the third time in the game, but Cobber first baseman Sydney Roberts snapped Bianco's line drive for the final out of the inning.
In the sixth inning, the Eagles were able to end the game early. Simons lead off with a double to left center, just missing out on a home run and promptly scored as Zimmerman singled to right center. ERAU once again loaded the bases and Obia hit another single through the left side to score Zimmerman from third base for the 8-0 win.
Simons picked up the win in the circle, her third of the year. She struck out nine, giving up just two hits and a walk in the process.
Obia was a perfect 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs and Zimmerman went 2-for-2 with 3 RBIs in the game.
Game 2 - ERAU 13, CC 0 (5 inn.)ERAU wasted no time jumping out in front in game two as Bianco hit a two-run home run to center field. The Eagles added two more in the inning with Obia driving in Simons and Cobber pitcher, Abigail Haraldson, walking in a run.
The Eagles held onto the 4-0 lead until they smashed the game wide open in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Raquelli Bianco hit her second home run of the night, fourth of the year, another blast to dead center field to score Battison and Rain. The Blue and Gold were able to load the bases once again and secured the all-important eighth run as Haraldson walked
Mckenzee Quinn.
Then for the first time in her career,
Anna Battison sent a ball over the left field fence for a grand slam. She scored
Natalie Morales, Quinn and Lewis to put the Eagles ahead 13-0.
Zimmerman got the win in the circle to improve to 4-2 on the year. She struck out three giving up four hits. Bianco went 2-for-3 in the game with both of her hits being home runs to drive in five runs. Battison was 2-for-3 with her grand slam to record 4 RBIs.
The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday as they host Ferris State in a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. at the ERAU Softball Stadium.
