MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle baseball team couldn't keep pace with the host Barry Buccaneers on Friday night at Feinbloom Field as the Bucs (15-6) scored in six of their eight at-bats to take the series opener from the Eagles (14-7), 14-5. The Eagles' defense struggled in the contest, committing four errors, while the Bucs drew eight walks to add to their 11 hits en route to the win.
Barry struck first in the opening frame, scoring three runs against Eagle starter
Nick Dearing, but the lead did not last long as the visitors came right back to post three runs in the top of the second, including two on a
Dalton Hughes' single and another on a
Tobias Moreno sacrifice fly, tying things up at 3-3.
The Bucs answered in their half of the second and never looked back, outscoring the Eagles 11-2 the rest of the night, including four runs in the second, and two each in the fourth, sixth and seventh.
Dearing (3-2) got the loss in 3.2 innings of work, while
Andrew Schorr,
Blake Herrera and
Dominic Jeancola all saw action out of the pen for the Blue and Gold. Jeancola proved to be a bright spot, working a scoreless eighth inning for the Eagles.
Joshua Garcia was the lone Eagle with two hits, while Hughes finished with two RBIs.
ERAU and Barry meet back up tomorrow, Saturday, March 12 for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
