FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The 15
th-ranked Embry-Riddle women's soccer team played its second overtime match in three outings against 20
th-ranked Nova Southeastern on Wednesday. But unlike last week when a late goal toppled Rollins, the Eagles were unable to find a game-winner, and came away from the NSU Soccer Complex with a 0-0 tie against the Sharks.
Both sides got solid performances from their respective goalkeepers as NSU netminder Ida Norstrom finished with nine saves, and the Eagles'
Fanny Kristiansson hauled in a season-high 10 saves in addition to making several game-saving plays on the line.
The Eagles got the first shot of the evening, a
Hanna Rolfsen header that Norstrom had to stop from going into the net, but NSU put the Eagles on their heels with three unanswered shots, and held a 10-6 advantage in that category at the end of the first half.
The Eagles had seven shots in the second half, but the majority came from long range and were easily handled by Norstrom.
The latter part of the second frame featured a flurry of activity in front of the Eagle goal. Perhaps most dangerous chance for the Sharks came in the 82
nd minute when Alexis Nowak capitalized on an Eagle turnover in the midfield and raced into a one-v-one situation with Kristiansson, but the Eagle freshman was up to the challenge. Her diving stop denied Nowak's point-blank attempt, and she was called on to fight through scrums and smother the ball to prevent the ball from finding the back of the net.
Two 10-minute overtime periods featured more of the same with NSU taking five shots to just two by the Eagles, but once again Kristiansson was the difference maker as ERAU picked up its first tie of the year.
The Eagles will be back in the friendly confines of the ERAU Soccer Stadium on Saturday when they host Eckerd at 7 p.m.
