MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's basketball team notched its 11
th victory of the season on Saturday, using a late surge to best Barry 56-48 on the road. With the win, the Eagles first against Barry, ERAU is now 11-4 on the year and 8-1 against Sunshine State Conference competition. The Buccaneers fall to 4-12 with the loss.

"This was a really good road win for us," ERAU Head Coach Lisa Nuxol-Wilson said. "Barry is a good team and their record is deceptive. They have a whole new team this year and can be really dangerous if they get hot from the three. Our post players did a good job on Kiara Palmer, one of their key players, and overall our team defense was good today. We need to continue to work on being more consistent on both ends for all four quarters, but this was a good team win and everyone worked hard to prepare each other all week in practice."

In the first quarter, a
Sabrina Whiting three at the 5:42 mark keyed a 13-2 run that led to a 10-point (18-8) Eagle lead after the first 10 minutes of play.
Ashley McWilliams hit another three to open the scoring in the second quarter, but from that point on the Eagle offense went cold and the Buccaneers bested the Eagles 15-5 in the period to knot the score at 23-23 at the half.

The start of the third period saw the Blue and Gold get a bucket from
Laniere Coleman and another trey from Whiting to put the Eagles back out in front by five (28-23). The Eagles still held a five-point advantage midway through the quarter, but a Julia Paulin score from long range, pulled the Bucs within two and sparked a 7-3 spurt that gave the home team a 39-37 edge heading into the final 10 minutes.

Both teams went back and forth in a fourth quarter that featured two ties and four lead changes, and at the 4:33 mark it was a two-point (46-44) game in favor of Barry.

At that point,
Tara Fields, who paced the Eagles in the first quarter, took over on offense once again. In the span of one minute and six seconds, the junior rattled off seven points on three consecutive Eagle possessions to put ERAU back in front, 51-46.

With 51 seconds remaining, Paulin hit another three to make the score 51-48. On the Eagles' next trip down the court, Whiting, one of the leading three-point shooters on the Eagle roster, passed the ball out to
Sigrid Sandstrom. Prior to Saturday's game, Sandstrom had missed 17 consecutive three-point attempts, but that drought ended when she connected on a long-range attempt to close out the third quarter, and her second trey of the afternoon made it a two-possession game (54-48) with 27 seconds left to play.

Whiting came up with a steal on Barry's next offensive set. The Bucs then fouled Ellenberger with 11 seconds left and the sophomore drained both free throws to seal the Eagle victory.

Fields, who posted a career-best 7-for-7 performance from the free throw line, led all scorers with 15 points. Ellenberger (5 assists) and Whiting (4 steals) finished with 11 and nine points, respectively, while
Mercedes Jorge hauled in a career-high and Embry-Riddle single-game best 17 rebounds to go with six points.

The Eagles return to the ICI Center on Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. tip against Florida Southern.
