Game Recap: RV Women's Soccer |

@ERAUWSoccer Suffers Road Loss to Rollins, 1-0

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's soccer team fell victim to a late goal by Rollins (4-8-2, 2-4-2) on Saturday as the Tars scored with just under five minutes remaining in regulation to top the Eagles 1-0 at Cahall-Sandspur Field.

Julia Olsson paced the Eagles' offensive effort in the first half, recording all four of the Eagles' shots in the frame. One of the most promising chances of the half came in the 36th minute when Hanna Rolfsen cleared the ball out the back to Ragnheidur Gardarsdottir who, in turn, played a ball over the top of the Tar defense to Olsson. Olsson dribbled toward the goal and rifled a shot from just inside the 18-yard box, but Rollins goalkeeper Kelly Rowswell made a diving save to keep the Eagles off the board.

ERAU had the first good chance of the second half when Gardarsdottir's low strike forced Roswell to make another save. Rollins stepped up the pressure on the offensive end, but the Eagle defense, behind six saves by Dana Ruchti, had an answer for each Tar attack and turned those stops into chances on the other end of the pitch, including shot by Olsson against the run of play with 26:31 left on the clock.

In the 67th minute, the Eagles appeared to have a chance to get on the scoreboard when Gardarsdottir got in behind the defense and raced into the box. With just the goalkeeper to beat, the freshman was tackled from behind, however, the referee ruled that there was no infraction on the play and awarded a corner kick instead of a penalty.

After 85 minutes without a score, the Tars got the game-winner when Chynna McGirt finished a Molly Von Eschenbach cross with 4:59 left to play.

The Eagles fought hard in the closing minutes of the contest, but were unable to find the equalizer, falling to 4-5-3 overall and 2-4-3 in Sunshine State Conference play.

"I want to credit Alicia and the Rollins team for their effort tonight," ERAU Head Coach Samantha Bohon said. "They worked hard and finished the opportunity they needed late in the game. Both teams had a lot riding on this game and it's unfortunate we couldn't get the result today. I felt like we never got into this game. We are a possession-oriented team yet we didn't look to keep the ball tonight. There are some choices for which I take responsibility that potentially played into our poor performance. It was a really unfortunate time to play our worst game of the year, but Rollins played a part in this as well.  It's a bit of a head-scratcher tonight but we'll go back, take a look at the film and see if we can keep trying to get better."

The Eagles will close out regular season play at home on Wednesday when they host Palm Beach Atlantic at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium.  Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
