LAKELAND, Fla. – The Embry Riddle women's volleyball team continued their final road trip of the season on Friday evening as the Eagles had a match with 24
th ranked Florida Southern. ERAU suffered a 3-0 loss dropping to 13-11, 8-10 in SSC matches, while Florida Southern improves to 21-6, 15-1 in conference play.
Olivia Roa lead the way defensively, tallying 29 digs.
Theresa Jordan tallied the most kills for the Eagles with nine and picked up 14 digs and one block.
Melanie Canfield and
Paola Virella had eight kills apiece and
Alyssa Rudd had 26 assists.
The Eagles jumped out to an early 3-1 lead in the first set before Florida Southern went on a 9-4 run to take a 10-7 lead. ERAU brought it within one after kills by
McKenna James and
Ella Duggan. However, 9-10 would be as close the Blue and Gold would come to taking the lead as Florida Southern controlled the set the rest of the way and would win 17-25. The Eagles would trail 1-0 after the first set.
The teams played evenly for much of the second set, playing to a 8-8 tie. That was when Florida Southern went on a 9-3 run to take a 17-11 lead. The Eagles would bring the deficit within three thanks to kills multiple kills
Paola Virella and another by
Theresa Jordan. With the score sitting at 15-18 in favor of Florida Southern, the Moccasins would finish the set on a 7-4 run and take the second set 25-19.
The Eagles would have to play from behind in the third set as they trailed 4-8 before calling a timeout. ERAU would come roaring back, going on an 11-6 run thanks to multiple kills by
Melanie Canfield and
Paola Virella. With the Eagles leading 15-14, the Moccasins gained all the momentum and finished the set on an 11-3 run to win the set and the match 3-0.
The Eagles will play their second to last match of the season as the Blue and Gold travel to St. Petersburg, Florida, to take on Eckerd College. Last time ERAU and Eckerd face-off, the Eagles swept the Tritons in Daytona Beach. The match is set to begin on November 17
th, at 7 p.m.
