SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle volleyball team closed out the 2017 season with a 3-0 loss at No. 23 Saint Leo on Saturday, 25-18, 25-14, 25-17. The Eagles end the season with a 13-13 record and an 8-12 mark in conference play, while the Lions end their regular season at 22-6, 16-4 in SSC matches.
Melanie Canfield and
Paola Virella led the offense with six kills apiece, while
Alyssa Rudd tallied 18 assists and
Olivia Roa picked up 10 digs.
SLU scored the first four points of the match and led throughout almost the entirety of the first set. ERAU rallied back with a 5-1 spurt to tie things at 9-9, but the Lions used a 7-2 rally of their own to pull ahead, 16-11. Embry-Riddle earned the next four points to cut the deficit to just one (16-15), only to see Saint Leo score six consecutive points to pull away en route to a 25-18 win.
The Lions started the second set on a 6-1 run and never looked back, leading by at least four points for the remainder of the set and outhitting the Eagles .265 to .097 as they won the frame, 25-14.
ERAU opened the third set with two straight points to take its first lead of the match. SLU quickly came back to tie it at 2-2 and went on a 5-0 run to take a 10-5 lead. A 6-1 spurt pushed the margin up to 16-8 and the home side never let the Eagles back into the match as they took the final set, 25-17.
