Rollins Downs @ERAUBaseball 11-2 in Series Opener

WINTER PARK, Fla. - Rollins used 12 hits and seven early walks to send the Embry-Riddle baseball team to its sixth straight loss on Friday night, 11-2. The Eagles (3-8) got a strong relief appearance from Nick Dearing over the final four-plus innings, but the Tars (8-3) did all their damage in the first four frames while holding ERAU to just four hits in the series opener.

It was the Eagles who actually scored first, claiming a 1-0 lead in the opening inning when Kyle Guttveg singled before moving to third on Robbie Hanlon's double and scoring on a Jonathan Camp sacrifice fly. However, Rollins answered back with an unearned run in its half of the inning to tie things up at 1-1 against ERAU starter Austin Lee.

Rollins took the lead in the second on a two-run homer, adding another run to make it 4-1 in favor of the Tars before the Eagles were able to once again get a Guttveg run when the freshman crossed home on a fielding error by the Tar second baseman.

Rollins chased Lee from the game in the home-half of the third with a a pair of runs before scoring once more against Jackson McFarland, pushing the lead to 7-2.

The hosts blew it open in the fourth, scoring four times, once on a steal of home, and three more times on another Eagle error as RC enjoyed an 11-2 advantage.

After getting the Eagles out of the fourth, Dearing delivered four consecutive scoreless innings, but the Eagle offense was similarly held in check by Tar starter Brad Case and reliever Whit Drennan, managing just one hit over the final seven frames.

The Eagles and Tars meet back up for a doubleheader tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 25 at 1 p.m. in Winter Park.
