Mocs Take Series Opener from @ERAUBaseball, 8-2

LAKELAND, Fla. - Despite equalling the hosts in hits, the Embry-Riddle baseball team couldn't better the Florida Southern Mocs on the scoreboard, falling in the series opener, 8-2 on Friday night. The Eagles (9-16) lost their sixth straight, while FSC (16-6) stretched its winning streak to eight.

Logan Browning proved to be tough to solve for the Eagles as the FSC starter went seven strong innings, allowing just two runs while striking out 13 batters before giving way to A.J. Smith for the final two frames where the reliever added three more Ks to the Mocs' total.

Kyle Guttveg and Jonathan Camp combined to briefly give ERAU the lead in the first when Guttveg doubled to lead off the contest, moving to third on a wild pitch and coming home on Camp's sac fly. Unfortunately, the lead lasted less than an inning as the home team struck for three runs in the bottom of the frame, never relinquishing it.

Cole Habig brought in the only other Eagle run of the game with an RBI single in the second, scoring Howard, and Matthew Russell was able to keep the Eagles within one through the bottom of the second, but five runs from the third through the sixth innings kept extending the FSC lead and Browning and Smith did the rest against the Eagle batters.

ERAU returns to Lakeland to take on Florida Southern in a doubleheader tomorrow, Saturday, March 18 at 1 p.m.
