BABSON PARK, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle baseball team fell on Tuesday night against former conference foe Webber International, 13-6. The Eagles (12-25) out-hit the Warriors (32-9) and had two leads in the game, but the scoring, which all took place in the middle innings, favored the Warriors as the home team put up crooked numbers of four, five and four in the fourth, fifth and sixth frames, respectively.
Troy Naab got the start for the Eagles, surrendering just two base hits to the Warriors in the first three frames, and the Eagle offense came alive in the fourth as they took a 4-0 lead over WIU.
Justin Franklin got things going with a one-out single before
Zach Howard walked and
Cole Habig brought the first run in with an RBI single up the middle.
Robbie Hanlon plated the next two ERAU runs with a double to right center before
Gunnar Bradshaw walked and
Kyle Guttveg plated the fourth run of the inning with a single to left.
Unfortunately for the visitors, the lead was short-lived as the Warriors rallied for a four-run inning of their own against
Luke Helms and
Quinn Bourque, tying things up on three hits, two walks and a hit by pitch.
ERAU grabbed its second lead of the night when
Luis Olivier doubled home
Christopher Medina in the fifth, but Webber took control in the home-half of the inning as the Warriors plated five runs on just two hits, taking advantage of two hit batters and a pair of walks to go in front, 9-5.
The Blue and Gold tallied a lone run in the sixth when
A.J. Mazzurco scored on an errant throw by WIU's Daniel Timmons, cutting the lead to 9-6, but the Eagles couldn't keep the momentum as the Warrior offense struck for four runs on three hits and three walks in the last of the sixth, extending their lead to 13-6 and effectively putting the game out of reach.
ERAU couldn't muster much offense in the later innings, sending just 11 men to the plate over the final three frames.
The Eagles will stay on the road and take on Florida Tech on Thursday and Fridayin Melbourne. Thursday's single game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start and the twin bill on Friday will begin at 12 p.m.
