BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle softball team battled the Lynn Fighting Knights to a 2-1 victory on Friday after nine innings. The Eagles improve to 21-19 while the Fighting Knights drop to 22-15.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when Lynn put the first run on the board.
The Eagles knotted the game at one in the top of the seventh inning when
Kassidy Simons singled in
Kailah Rain who reached on a single of her own.
The game was forced into extra innings, as it was still tied 1-1 at the end of the seventh inning. Both teams battled but the Eagles were fortuitous and ended the stalemate with one run in the ninth inning. With two runners on base,
Hannah Thomas singled to right field and pushed in
Maggie Scott for the game-winning run.
The Fighting Knights couldn't fight any longer and the game ended after nine innings with the Eagles winning 2-1.
Simons (9-9) earned the win after pitching the final seven innings giving up no runs on four hits with 10 strikeouts.
Ilona Andringa started for the Eagles, tossing the first two innings. She gave up one run on two hits with one strikeout and three walks. Rain and Scott each had one hit and scored one run while Simons and Thomas tallied a hit and one RBI each.
The Blue and Gold return to action tomorrow to face Lynn in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
