WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (30-28, 25-14, 25-20) road defeat at Rollins on Tuesday night. The Eagles fell to 4-4, 2-3 in conference play, while the Tars moved to 3-6, 2-3 in SSC matches.
McKenna James led the Blue and Gold with eight kills while
Ella Duggan chipped in with seven and
Melanie Canfield and
Erika Barbour each had six.
Olivia Roa led all players with 29 digs and
Alyssa Rudd tallied a team-high 28 assists.
The first set was a back-and-forth affair that saw the lead change hands four times in the early going. The Tars eventually pulled away with an 8-1 run to go up 21-14, but the Eagles answered back with a 9-1 spurt to retake the lead, 23-22. ERAU committed back-to-back errors to give RC set point at 24-23, but a Rollins error tied it at 24, pushing the set into extra points. Both teams had multiple chances to clinch the set, with ERAU earning a set point at 26-25 and Rollins having four chances to close out the frame. The Tars eventually were able to cap the set with two straight kills to win by a 30-28 score.
The Eagles started off set two with a 5-2 lead, but Rollins quickly rallied with a 15-3 run that put the Tars comfortably ahead, 17-8. The Blue and Gold couldn't muster a comeback, dropping the set, 25-14.
RC followed a similar pattern in the third set, using a 12-6 run to turn a 5-5 tie into a 17-11 lead, which the Tars would never relinquish. The Eagles got within three on six different occasions, but couldn't trim the deficit any further, falling 25-20 in the set and 3-0 in the match.
The Eagles are back in action on Friday, Sept. 29, when they travel to Lynn for a 7 p.m. SSC contest.
