ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A 17-0 run midway through the first half propelled NCAA II No. 22 Eckerd to a 95-72 win over the Embry-Riddle men's basketball team on Saturday. The Eagles (6-9, 0-7 SSC) got a career-high 22 points from
Rudy Bibb-Boyd, but couldn't overcome the large halftime deficit the Tritons (13-2, 6-2 SSC) put them in as they dropped their third straight game.
ERAU started the game on a 6-0 run, starting with a Bibb-Boyd three, but the home team battled back to get within 8-6 before
Brian Johnson answered with a three for the Blue and Gold.
Cole Hunter hit a trey at the 9:11 mark to give the Eagles a 19-18 lead, but over the next seven minutes the visitors went scoreless as Eckerd went on a 17-0 run before
Luka Majstorovic's layup stopped the streak. Unfortunately the damage was done and ERAU limped into the break down 43-25.
Bibb-Boyd canned a triple to start the second half, but that was the closest the Eagles would get over the final 20 minutes as Eckerd had an answer for every Eagle bucket.
Majstorovic joined Bibb-Boyd in double-figures with 12 points, while
Joshua Hawkins finished with seven points and 10 boards.
Embry-Riddle returns to the ICI Center next week to host Nova Southeastern on Jan. 10 at 7:30 p.m.
