LAKELAND, Fla. – A goal in the first half of play was the difference in Saturday's Sunshine State Conference game between the Embry-Riddle and Florida Southern women's soccer teams. The host Lady Mocs scored the game's only goal late in the first half to improve to 4-8-1 overall and 2-5 in league, while the Eagles fall to 6-5 on the year and 4-3 in the SSC.
In the first 45 minutes of play, the Eagles dominated the possession and had 4-2 shot advantage, but it was the Lady Mocs who scored first, capitalizing on an Eagle miscue to go up 1-0 in the 42nd minute.
The Eagles had opportunities to score the equalizer, including a series of shots in the opening minutes of the second half. Both sides were evenly matched in shots, recording eight attempts apiece, but neither team was able to find the back of the net again, resulting in the 1-0 win for FSC.
"Tonight's game was played box to box," ERAU Head Coach
Samantha Bohon observed. "Neither team created many chances and it came down to a mistake on our part. We had a good chance to level the game at the start of the second half and didn't capitalize. I was happy with how our team competed, but we have to be a bit more disciplined with execution. The trademark of our league is the parity from top to bottom and tonight's results from all of the games showed how tough it is to get three points."
Next up for the Eagles is another road fixture. The Blue and Gold will travel to Tampa on Wednesday for a match against the Spartans that was rescheduled due bad weather. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
