Daytona Beach, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's soccer teamed wrapped up its season at home against No. 3 ranked Palm Beach Atlantic.
The Sailfish (17-1, 9-1 Sunshine State Conference) took control midway through the first half and would go on to win the match 5-1.
While both teams battled evenly for the first 20 minutes.
Collin Archer attempted to give the Eagles (2-10-1, 1-8-1 SSC) the lead, but he was unable to get enough power behind his strike, resulting in a save for the visiting goalkeeper.
PBA would take the lead after a goal from Cadu Cusastis in the 21st minute and the Sailfish would not turn back. Just minutes later, Guillermo Deal would make it a 2-0 game after his back heel connected first time and snuck past the ERAU keeper.
ERAU struggled to get things going offensively in the first half. The Eagles mustered just three shots in the period. PBA's Jack Burrows would tack another goal to the Sailfish lead at the 35th minute mark.
Ross Dickinson tried to answer for the Eagles before the half, but his shot with five minutes remaining was saved by Elliott Barker.
The Eagles came out of halftime with a more aggressive approach. ERAU outshot its first half attempts in the first 10 minutes of the second half, however, they were unable to find the back of the net.
PBA added to more goals to its lead in the half. The main bright spot for the Eagles in the second half was a goal from
Christian Mather.
Tim-Frederik Lange passed to
Roberto Whitley who set up Mather for the chip-in goal. Mather's second goal of the season helped ERAU avoid being shutout for the third straight match.
The Sailfish finished the match with a 5-1 victory to clinch their second consecutive Sunshine State Conference regular season title.
PBA outshot ERAU 17-9 in the match. Mather led the Eagle attack with three shots. ERAU spread the ball around with six other Eagles recording one shot each.
Tonight's game was the last collegiate match for seniors Archer,
Pierre Hertin,
Julian Slotty and
Shane Butler. The Eagles finished 10th in the Sunshine State Conference for the second consecutive season. ERAU was picked to finished 11th in this year's preseason poll.
