DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle volleyball team wrapped up the 2018 regular season on Saturday with a 3-1 loss to Barry, 25-14, 21-25, 25-13, 25-19. The Eagles end the season with an 18-12 mark and a 9-11 record in conference play, while the Bucs improve to 28-3, 17-3 in SSC matches.
Senior
Erika Barbour led the Eagles with 14 kills to go along with 11 digs while senior
McKenna James added 11 kills.
Olivia Roa picked up a match-high 23 digs and
Alyssa Rudd tallied 39 assists for the Eagles.
The Blue and Gold got off to a shaky start as Barry outhit Embry-Riddle .345 to .100 in the opening set. The Bucs used a 5-0 run midway through the set to open up a 13-8 lead and they closed out the frame on an 8-2 run, winning the set by a score of 25-14.
Set two saw ERAU bounce back to outhit the Bucs, .306 to .244. The Eagles followed the Bucs blueprint from set one, turning a 9-9 tie into an 18-11 lead thanks to a 9-2 run. Barry responded by scoring six of the next seven points to quickly close the game to 19-17, but the Eagles were able to play sideout volleyball for the rest of the frame, keeping the Bucs at bay and eventually holding on for a 25-21 win.
In the third set Barry took command early and never looked back, outhitting the Eagles .481 to .059. BU quickly jumped out to a 7-1 lead and used an 8-1 surge to increase the margin to 13 points (20-7) late before securing a 25-13 win.
The fourth set saw BU hit .400 while limiting Embry-Riddle to a .222 attack percentage. Barry opened up a 6-1 lead early on and then went on a 5-0 spurt to build the lead to 11-4. The Bucs had a 10-point lead (22-12) late before the Eagles went on a 7-1 rally, making things interesting by trimming the margin to just four points (23-19). Unfortunately for the Blue and Gold, Barry was able to win the next two points to clinch the set, 25-19.
The Eagles will now await the official announcement of the regional qualifiers to find out if they have earned an at-large bid to the NCAA II South Region Tournament. The selection show is scheduled to air tomorrow night, Nov. 11, at 10 p.m. EST on NCAA.com.
