DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's tennis team notched its third shutout of the season on Wednesday with a 9-0 home victory over Webber International. Ranked eighth in the latest ITA/NCAA II national poll, the Eagles improved to 9-2 on the year and will scrimmage ASA-Miami on Thursday before taking on third-ranked Lynn at1 p.m. on Saturday at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
A doubles sweep put the Eagles ahead 3-0 early in the contest.
Juan Ortiz Couder and
Lucas Bos got the scoring started for the Blue and Gold with their 8-4 win over Kyle Hall and Matthew Alexander on court two. Third-ranked
Rodolfo Arreygue and
Andres Donayre followed with their 8-2 defeat of Hugo Hasegawa and Ivan Bonderanko at the top spot, and
Deepak Vishavkarma and
Mickael Faucher teamed up for an 8-4 win over Lucas Bingeheimer and Marc Schneider on court three.
Singles play saw Donayre dispatch Bonderanko 6-1, 6-1at the second spot to extend the Eagle advantage to 4-0. The clinching point came via Ortiz Couder's 6-4, 6-2 top-flight win over Hasegawa.
Playing at No. 3 singles, Vishavkarma downed Schneider 6-2, 6-2, and Faucher followed with his 6-3, 6-0 defeat of Bingeheimer at No. 5.
Tim Loerwink was 6-0, 6-1 against Hall on court six, and playing on court four, Bos dropped the first set 6-4, but rebounded to win the match 6-2, 11-9.
