DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The eighth-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team was unable to sustain an early lead, falling to third-ranked Lynn 6-3, Saturday at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The Eagles are now 9-3 overall and 2-2 in the Sunshine State Conference, while the Fighting Knights improved their record to 4-1 in the league and 11-4 on the year.
The Eagles grabbed an early 2-0 advantage with wins at the top two doubles positions. The first match off the court was at No. 1 where third-ranked
Rodolfo Arreygue and
Andres Donayre topped Florian Clemares and Tristan Houle 8-5.
Juan Ortiz Couder and
Lucas Bos followed with an 8-5 win of their own over Kay Bartmann and Jose Porifirio.
The Fighting Knights were able to get a point back when Jean-Baptiste Mateo and Gabriel Hocevar overtook
Deepak Vishavkarma and
Mickael Faucher 8-6 to make the score 2-1 for ERAU heading into singles.
Houle recorded the first singles point of the afternoon with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Bos at the fourth spot. Donayre dispatched Bartmann 6-4, 6-2 to put the Eagles back in front, but eighth-ranked Mateo held off No. 39 Ortiz Couder 6-4, 6-4 on court one and No. 71 Clemares topped Vishavkarma 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 to give the Fighting Knights their first lead of the day.
The clinching point came at the No. 6 singles position where Porfirio earned a 6-2, 6-3 win over Faucher, and Hocevar managed to get by Arreygue 5-7, 6-3, 15-13 to close out the scoring.
The Eagles will have just one day to rest before hosting Xavier (La.) at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
