DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The 13th-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team notched its 10th win of the season on Wednesday. The Eagles won three doubles and three singles points to down No. 40 Rollins 6-3 at the Crotty Tennis Complex and improve to 10-4 overall and 3-2 in the Sunshine State Conference. Rollins drops to 6-10 overall and 1-2 in the league with the loss.
The Eagles gained an early advantage by taking all three doubles matches.
Juan Ortiz Couder and
Lucas Bos registered the first point with their 8-4 win over Cody Gubin and Francesco Racanelli at the No. 2 spot. The fourth-ranked ERAU tandem of
Rodolfo Arreygue and
Andres Donayre made it 2-0 with their 8-5 defeat of seventh-ranked Nicolo De Fraia and Guillermo Nicolas at No. 1, and
Deepak Vishavkarma and
Mickael Faucher wrapped up the doubles sweep by besting Atakan Gezer and Frederick Danielson 8-6 on court three.
Ranked No. 33 in the latest ITA/NCAA II poll. Donayre made quick work of Mehaoui at No. 3 singles, extending the Eagle advantage to 4-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win. The next match off the court was at the second spot where Vishavkarma downed 35th-ranked Nicolas 6-3, 6-1 to assure the Eagles of the victory.
The Tars got two points back by way of Danielson's 6-4, 6-4 result against Faucher and Gubin's 7-6 (4), 2-6, 11-9 edge over Bos.
Arreygue bounced back from a 6-2 loss in the first set to top Gezer 7-6 (4), 10-8, and the final point of the day went to No. 32 De Fraia who held off No. 50 Ortiz Couder 6-7 (6-8), 6-2, 10-7.
Next up for the Eagles is an April 2 matchup against No. 19 Azusa Pacific. Monday's match will take place at the Crotty Tennis Complex with a 3:30 p.m. start.
