@ERAUSoftball Falls in Nine Innings Against No. 7 PBA

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle softball team continued their six-game road trip on Thursday evening, going up against the seventh-ranked Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish. The game went all the way to the ninth inning but unfortunately, the Eagles surrendered a walk-off single in the bottom of the frame to lose 3-2. ERAU falls to 25-9 overall and 13-6 in Sunshine State Conference play while PBA improves to 23-2 overall and 16-0 in conference play.

The game was a pitching duel the entire way as neither team scored until the third inning. Mariana Pereira got the Eagles on the board in the bottom of the third with an RBI infield single. However, the Sailfish took the lead in the bottom of the third, scoring two runs off two RBI singles, taking a 2-1 lead into the fourth. The teams went scoreless in the fourth and fifth inning as the game went to the sixth with ERAU trailing 2-1.

Destiny Carroll tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the sixth thanks to an RBI infield single. Embry-Riddle and PBA failed to score in the seventh inning and the game went to extra innings with the score even at 2-2. The Blue and Gold had a chance to score in the top of the eighth, managing to load the bases. Unfortunately, the Eagles stranded all three runners and went into the ninth tied at 2-2. Embry-Riddle failed to score in the ninth, opening the door for PBA. The Sailfish took advantage in the ninth, hitting a walk-off bases-loaded RBI single to secure the victory. ERAU fell by a final score of 3-2.

Ilona Andringa picked up the loss for the Eagles, losing her sixth game of the season. Andringa pitched eight and two-thirds innings, allowed three runs (all earned), off 10 hits, walked five, and struck out 15. Maggie Scott and Destiny Carroll both went 2-4 in the contest as Carroll drove in one run.

Embry-Riddle returns to action on tomorrow, March 30, to complete the three-game series against Palm Beach Atlantic. It will be a doubleheader with the first pitch of game one scheduled for 12 pm.
