No. 12 Mocs Win Series Over @ERAUBaseball with Twin Bill Victories

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The No. 12 Florida Southern Moccasins claimed a Sunshine State Conference sweep with a doubleheader win over the Embry-Riddle baseball team on Friday. The Mocs (26-4-1, 8-3 SSC) controlled the day's opener early on and were never really threatened in a 12-3 win before using a huge sixth inning in the series finale to down the Eagles (10-19, 1-11 SSC) 12-6.

The Eagles will have their annual exhibition game against the Daytona Tortugas on Tuesday, April 3 at 6:35 p.m. at Historic Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

Game 1 - FSC 12, ERAU 3
The visitors scored four in the second inning and never looked back as Thomas Spinelli and Matt Martin combined to hold the Eagles to three runs on six hits with 10 strikeouts.

Hayden Marze hit his third home run of the series to open the scoring in the second, a two-run shot against Daniel Agramont and FSC tacked on two more on a Pablo Cabrera single to right center later in the frame.

Cabrera deliverd anther RBI hit in the fourth to make it 5-0 before Kyle Guttveg broke up Spinelli's no-hit bid in the fourth with a one-out solo homer to left.

Marze homered for the fourth time in the series in the fifth and a wild pitch from Agramont allowed Jacob Teter to score in the inning, pushing the FSC lead to 7-1

Kyle Marsh tripled in two Eagle runs in the bottom of the sixth, trimming the lead to 7-3, but the Mocs quickly got those two runs back in the seventh on a single from Teter to score Marze and Logan Browning and the visitors added three more runs in the eighth to put the game out of reach for the Eagles.

Guttveg and Marsh each finished with two hits in the contest.

Game 2 - FSC 12, ERAU 6
Zach Howard became the all-time leader in home runs at Sliwa Stadium and the Eagles held a 5-0 lead halfway through the game, but a nine-run sixth from Florida Southern pushed the Mocs in front and the Eagles could never recover in the finale.

Aidan Brady and FSC's JJ Niekro matched zeroes through the first two innings, but the Eagles strung together six straight hits in the third, scoring. five runs on RBIs from Marsh, Luis Olivier, Howard, Justin Franklin and Alex Dodd.

FSC got one run back in the fourth off of Brady, but couldn't get much more off the Eagle starter until it started to rain during the top of the sixth. Two hit batters and and a single loaded the bases for FSC to start the inning, followed by an error and two-run double to make it 5-4 before a walk ended Brady's night. Matthew Russell was able to get one out, but six runs came around to score as FSC took a 10-5 lead before Dominic Jeancola was able to get out of the inning.

Two more runs in the seventh off an Omar Villiman single made it 12-5 before Howard broke a tie with Kyle Albright with his 14th home run at Sliwa Stadium in the eighth, a solo long ball to cut the deficit to 12-6 and account for the final score.

Marsh went 4-for-5 in the game, while Howard finished 3-for-4 and both Franklin and Jake Malone had two hits.
