Barry Defeats @ERAUSoftball 1-0 in Miami Shores

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle softball team was playing one of their final conference games of the season on Friday evening as the Eagles were going up against Sunshine State Conference foe Barry University. It was a pitching duel throughout as the teams combined for just nine hits in the contest. However, the Eagles could not overcome a late-game deficit and lost by a score of 1-0. ERAU falls to 30-13 overall and 18-10 in SSC play while Barry improves to 22-27 and 7-18 in conference play.

Ilona Andringa made her 28th start of the season on Friday evening, good for her 29th appearance of the season. Andringa was solid in the circle as she pitched six innings, allowed five hits, one run (earned), walked one and struck out eight. Andringa now holds a 1.47 ERA, tied for fourth best in the SSC.

The Eagles tailed their first hit in the top of the third, ReAnne Drayton singled up the middle to start the inning. Drayton advanced all the way to third to third after a sacrifice bunt by Destiny Carroll and Lisa Hop grounding out to the Barry pitcher. Unfortunately, the Eagles failed to bring Drayton around to score and went into the fourth tied with the Bucs 0-0.

The 0-0 score ended in the bottom of the fifth as Barry scored thanks to a sacrifice fly by Lynsey Duncan. The Eagles had a chance to tie the game in the sixth, but the Blue and Gold stranded runners on second and third.

The Eagles last opportunity came in the top of the seventh. With two outs, Lisa Hop managed to lay down a bunt single. Hop advanced to third as Maggie Scott singled through the right side. The Eagles had the tying run just sixty feet away but could not bring Hop across to score, falling to the Bucs 1-0.

Kailah Rain hit 1-for-2 and managed to draw a walk. Mariana Pereira, ReAnne Drayton, and Lisa Hop all went 1-for-3.

Embry-Riddle returns to action on tomorrow, April 21, to complete the three-game series against Barry University. It will be a doubleheader with the first pitch of game one scheduled for 12 pm.
