MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle softball team played their final conference games of the season on Saturday afternoon as the Eagles had a doubleheader against Sunshine State Conference foe Barry University. ERAU swept the Bucs, with a 4-3 win in game one and a 2-1 victory in game two. The Eagles improve to 32-13 overall and 20-10 in SSC play while Barry drops to 22-29 and 7-20 in conference play.
Game 1
The Blue and Gold tallied their first run of the game in the top of the third as
Katy Thompson hit an RBI single up the middle to score
Maggie Scott. Barry countered in the bottom half of the frame as they managed to steal home to tie the game.
The Bucs tallied another run in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run by Anieliese Palmeiro. The Eagles trailed 2-1 going into the top of the fifth.
Embry-Riddle regained the lead in the fifth as the Eagles scored three runs.
Maggie Scott started the inning with a leadoff double.
Katy Thompson knocked in Scott with an RBI single to left.
Mariana Pereira hit a double of her own, advancing Thompson to third.
Destiny Carroll drove in the final two runs of the inning with a two-RBI single to left field. Going into the sixth, the Eagles lead Barry 4-2.
The Bucs would not go quietly, cutting the lead to one with an RBI double in the sixth. Embry-Riddle had a chance to put more runs on the board in the seventh with Pereira reaching on a fielding error and Carroll single to right. ERAU stranded both runners and went to the bottom of the seventh leading Barry 4-3.
Jayla Jackson made her 18th appearance of the season on Saturday afternoon as she won her eighth game of the year. Jackson had a solid performance in the circle, pitching four innings, allowed four hits, two runs (both earned), walked two and struck out two.
Lisa Hop picked up her first save of the season for the Blue and Gold. Hop pitched three innings, one run (unearned), off two hits, two walks, and one strikeout.
Maggie Scott and
Destiny Carroll both went 3-for-4 with Scott hitting two doubles and scoring twice while Carroll drove in a pair of runs.
Katy Thompson and
Mariana Pereira each hit 2-for-4 as Thompson scored once and drove in two runs while Pereira hit one double and scored once.
Game 2
Ilona Andringa made her 29th start of the season on Saturday afternoon, picking up her 20
th win in the process. Andringa pitched another gem, throwing a complete game, allowed nine hits, one run (earned), walked one and struck out ten.
The Eagles scored their first run of the contest in the top of the second as
Destiny Carroll hit an RBI single through the right side. ERAU held a 1-0 lead going into the third. Barry had a chance to score in the bottom of the third, having runners on first and second. The Bucs stranded both runners and the Eagles were still in control going into the fourth.
Barry managed to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth, scoring off an RBI double to left. The game went to the seventh, tied at 1-1.
Embry-Riddle capitalized on two costly mistakes by the Barry infield.
Lisa Hop advanced all the way to second due to an errant throw by the Bucs pitcher. Hop came around to score after a throwing error by the Barry catcher. The Eagles took a 2-1 into the bottom of the seventh.
The Bucs did not make things easy in the seventh, as Barry loaded the bases after a double and two singles. However, Andringa came through in the clutch, getting out of the bases loaded jam to secure the 2-1 victory for the Eagles.
Mackie Chandler hit 3-for-4 with three singles.
Peqe Lopez and
Lisa Hop both went 2-for-3 with both of them scoring the Eagles only runs.
Maggie Scott hit 2-for-4 and stole a base.
The Blue and Gold will play their final game of the season on Sunday, April 29 as the Eagles will play one game against Flagler College. It will be senior day for the Eagles, as ERAU will honor its six seniors before the game. First pitch is scheduled for 12 pm.
