BRADENTON, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's tennis team was unable to advance at the Sunshine State Conference Tournament on Friday. The fourth-seeded Eagles fell to top-ranked and the tournament's No. 1 seed Saint Leo, 5-0, at the IMG Academy. The loss puts the Eagles at 12-8 on the year, while the Lions remain perfect at 21-0.
Saint Leo claimed an early advantage by winning all three doubles points. Jaime Bueno and Willem va den Akker got the first score with an 8-2 win over
Deepak Vishavkarma and
Mickael Faucher on court three. Second-ranked Thomas Grinberg and Vincent Suillerot topped 15
th-ranked
Rodolfo Arreygue and
Andres Donayre 8-3 at the top spot, and Francisco Aparicio and Aurel Ciocanu held off
Juan Ortiz Couder and
Lucas Bos 8-6 to make it 3-0 Lions heading into singles.
The match at No. 2 singles pitted 13
th-ranked Suillerot against No. 31 Donayre and it was Suillerot who earned the Lions' fourth point with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Donayre. The set scores at No. 1 singles were identical to those on court two as top-ranked Grinberg bested No. 29 Ortiz Couder to seal the victory.
The Eagles will face Lynn in the third-place match at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
