SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's tennis 2018 campaign came to an end with a loss to fifth-ranked Lynn on Monday at the Saint Leo Tennis Center. The Eagles, who made the program's first-ever NCAA II regional appearance, fell to the Fighting Knights 5-1 in the third meeting between the teams in a month.
Lynn's first point of the day came at No. 3 doubles where Gabriel Hocevar and Tristan Houle topped
Deepak Vishavkarma and
Mickael Faucher 8-4. The match at court two featured seven break points, four for Lynn and three for ERAU. In the end it was Lynn's Jean-Baptiste Mateo and Jose Porfirio who held off
Juan Ortiz Couder and
Lucas Bos 9-7 to put the Fighting Knights up 2-0.
At No. 1 doubles, the Eagles' 14
th-ranked tandem of
Rodolfo Arreygue and
Andres Donayre got a point back for the Blue and Gold, edging Kay Bartmann and Florian Clemares 9-8 (7-3).
Lynn notched its first singles points when Hocevar bested Bos 6-1, 6-0 on court five, followed by Porfirio's 6-3, 6-2 win over Faucher on court six.
At the third singles position, Clemares battled Vishavkarma to a 7-6 (7-3) win in the first set, and held off the ERAU senior 6-4 in the second to clinch the Lynn victory.
"I thought we competed well in doubles," ERAU Head Coach Dave Paschal said. "We needed to be up 2-1 after doubles and we had many opportunities to do that, but didn't capitalize on those. I thought the top four guys in our singles lineup competed hard and had chances to win, but credit goes to Lynn. They have a good team and they were better than us today."
Playing in their first season as a full member of NCAA II and the Sunshine State conference, the Eagles capped the year at 12-10 overall and finished fourth in the SSC regular season standings.
