DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's lacrosse team came up against the top-ranked team in the country on Saturday, and ERAU couldn't keep pace with the No. 1 Mocs from Florida Southern, falling 20-6. The Eagles fall to 7-7 on the year and 1-2 in SSC games, while FSC moves to 13-1, 3-1 in league play.
The game started an hour late due to multiple lightning delays, and the teams would both have to endure another 30-minute lightning delay less than two minutes into the contest. FSC led 2-0 when the game was halted, and the Mocs continued to put up goals when the game resumed, jumping out to a 10-0 lead in the first seven minutes.
Mya Watson got ERAU on the board at the 21:53 mark, but Florida Southern scored the next three goals to pull ahead 13-1 midway through the first half. Embry-Riddle got the next three goals before FSC tallied one with 1:20 left in the half to make it a 14-4 game at the break.
The Mocs scored the first three goals of the second half before
Erin Bryenton tallied a goal to make it 17-5. Florida Southern again scored three straight before Watson put in the game's final goal with 5:15 left in the game, accounting for the 20-6 final score.
Watson scored three of ERAU's six goals, with
McKenzie Jackson,
Carson Toney, and Bryenton each tallying one. Jackson also led the team with four draw controls while
Cierra Kelley had a team-high two ground balls.
Mary Kreider took the loss in goal, making one save, while
Skylar Mossop tallied four saves in relief.
The Eagles travel to No. 5 Florida Tech next Saturday for a 7 p.m. SSC contest.
