COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Embry-Riddle women's soccer team suffered a loss in the team's first game of the 2018 season, falling to 12
th-ranked Columbus State 3-0 at the Cougars' Walden Soccer Complex.
The start of the contest saw the Eagles with a 2-0 advantage in shots and both teams had a corner kick apiece, but it was CSU who struck first in the 24th minute. The Cougars won a free kick just outside the box and their initial attempt on frame was turned back by ERAU goalkeeper
Fanny Kristiansson, but Olivia Jarrell was able to send the rebound into the lower left corner of the goal, giving the home team a 1-0 lead at the end of the half.
The Eagles had the better of the possession to start the second half, but goals by the Cougars in the 55th and 62nd minutes sealed CSU's 3-0 win.
"Credit goes to Jay [Entlich] and his staff because they do a great job organizing their side," ERAU Head Coach
Samantha Bohon commented. "We were excited to match up against a traditionally strong team that likes to play good soccer. I don't think we had our best showing but we will get better from tonight. We really like the group we have this year and are excited to build on this game and take on a good opponent in Montevallo."
The Eagles will close the CSU Collegiate Invitational on Sunday when they take on Montevallo at noon.
