@ERAUMSoccer Drops Conference Opener

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's soccer team dropped its conference opener to Nova Southeastern by a score of 4-1 on Wednesday night.

The Sharks (4-1-0, 1-0-0 Sunshine State Conference) did not take long to feel out the Eagle defense. Their first goal was scored in the first five minutes of play after crisp passing set up Ignacio Goya to give NSU an early lead. Darwin Lom was credited with the assist and the Sharks never looked back.

ERAU (1-2-0, 0-1-0 SSC) had an early chance to steal back some of the Shark's momentum. During a counter-attack, the Eagles had the number advantage. Olav Olsen Aamlid had an opportunity to tie the match, but his shot went wide.

Minutes later, Mourad Falahen attempted to score the equalizing goal, however, his shot from outside the box sailed high. That would be the last chance the Eagles had to equalize, as soon after, Sebastian Loibl would score his fourth goal of the season on a curling shot from the top of the box to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.

The Sharks did not stop there. A volley played in for Darwin Lom was struck perfectly and found the back of the net to increase NSU's lead to 3-0.

ERAU tried to mount a comeback, but it had no luck on the offensive end. Christian Mather got plenty of boot on a shot outside the box, but his attempt sailed wide right of the goal. That would be the case for the rest of the squad, as the Eagles failed to put a shot on goal during the first half.

NSU added to its lead early in the second half. A ball sent in from Jan Luca's corner kick found the head of Loibl for his second goal of the match. This increased the deficit to 4-0.

The lone bright spot for the Eagles came in the closing minutes of the match. ERAU was awarded a free kick outside the box. Teddy West was able to find Alex O'Brien on the set piece who was able to put the Eagles on the board, avoiding the shutout.

The Sharks only outshot the Eagles 11-10, however, they had a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal. Aamlid led the ERAU attack with three shots in the match. Falahen was not far behind with two shots of his own.

In its next matchup, ERAU will travel to Saint Leo on Saturday. The match will kickoff at 7:00p.m.
