DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle volleyball team returned to the win column on Saturday afternoon with a comfortable sweep of visiting Nova Southeastern, 25-21, 25-19, 25-19. The win moves ERAU to 8-3 on the season and 2-2 in SSC play, while the Sharks fall to 2-9 overall and 0-4 in league matches.
Erika Barbour led all players with 11 kills and tallied a career-best 17 digs, while
Melanie Canfield added 10 kills and nine digs.
Alyssa Rudd registered her sixth double-double of the year with a 14 digs and a match-high 32 assists, while
Olivia Roa collected a match-leading 26 digs.
The Eagles only trailed for one point during the first set when NSU led 3-2. ERAU started to pull away midway through the frame when
Sam Lanning scored three straight kills to push the lead to 16-11. The Sharks got back to within two at 19-17, but a quick 3-0 spurt put the Eagles ahead 22-17 and they would go on to take the set, 25-21.
As in set one, the Blue and Gold fell behind just once in set two, and it was at 3-2. A 12-3 surge gave the home side a comfortable 14-6 lead, but NSU fought back late and closed the gap to 20-19. The Eagles finally ended the run and in doing so, flipped the momentum to their side, as ERAU won the final five points in a row to win the set, 25-19.
The third set was the most competitive in the early stages, featuring 11 ties and four lead changes. Embry-Riddle took the lead for the final time on an NSU service error that made it 15-14. That marked the first point of a 5-1 run that essentially put the set out of reach as ERAU cruised to a 25-19 win to finish the 3-0 sweep.
The Eagles will hit the road next weekend for a pair of SSC contests. Embry-Riddle will visit Florida Southern on Friday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m., followed by a match at Saint Leo at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22.
