MELBOURNE, Fla. –
Theresa Jordan hit a career-high .526 with 10 kills and
Erika Barbour was nearly as efficient with 13 kills and a .435 hitting percentage to lead the Embry-Riddle volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-13) sweep at Florida Tech on Tuesday night. The win moves the Eagles' mark to 10-4, 4-3 in SSC play, while the Panthers fall to 4-11, 1-6 in league matches.
The Eagles hit .347 as a team, their second-highest hitting percentage in a match this season (.352 vs. Shaw, Aug. 24).
Barbour's 13 kills led all players and Jordan added 10 digs to her 10 kills to notch a double-double.
Melanie Canfield chipped in with nine kills while
McKenna James tallied seven kills and a match-high five blocks (one solo).
Alyssa Rudd recorded her eighth consecutive double-double with 35 assists and 10 digs and
Olivia Roa picked up a match-leading 21 digs.
The Blue and Gold scored the first three points of the match and quickly found themselves ahead by a score of 11-3. FIT got back to within two points at 17-15, but a 4-0 spurt that began with a kill and back-to-back service aces from Jordan gave ERAU a bit of a cushion at 21-15. Embry-Riddle fought off another late rally to hold on for a 25-22 win.
Florida Tech got on the board first in set two, scoring points on the first three rallies. The Eagles quickly came back to take the lead 5-4 on a Roa service ace, though the Blue and Gold wouldn't pull away until James put down three straight kills to push the lead up to 19-15. The Panthers responded with three straight points but Embry-Riddle kept the lead and finished off the set on a 6-2 surge to claim a 25-20 victory.
Set three saw Embry-Riddle go on a blistering 10-1 run to turn a 6-5 deficit into a commanding 15-7 lead. The Blue and Gold didn't slow down, extended the lead to double-digits at 19-9 en route to an easy 25-13 win as ERAU hit a staggering .414 in the final frame to finish off the 3-0 sweep.
The Eagles return home this Saturday, Sept. 29, to host Eckerd in a 4 p.m. match inside the ICI Center.
