WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's basketball team (10-5) notched its 10
th win of the season by edging Palm Beach Atlantic 45-44, Saturday at PBAU's Rubin Arena. The Eagles registered their lowest point total of the season, but it was enough to get the Eagles back into the win column and improve their Sunshine State Conference record to 5-3.
Nikki Tucker led all players with 17 points and six rebounds, while
Jessica Savage tallied a career-high 10 points to go with five boards.
A low-scoring first quarter saw the Eagles hold the home team scoreless for the first eight minutes of the frame. The Eagles' 9-5 first quarter lead grew to as many as 10 points in a second period that saw the Blue and Gold shoot 6-of-12 from the field. Three of the Eagles' four long-range baskets came from Tucker who tallied 10 points in the quarter to help ERAU to a 25-16 advantage at the half.
The third quarter saw a reversal of fortunes for ERAU as the Eagles managed just two made field goals in the period. The Sailfish capitalized on the Eagles' offensive struggles and outscored the visitors 17-10 in the quarter to cut the lead to 35-33.
In a fourth quarter that feature three ties and six lead changes, neither team shot the ball well in the period with ERAU shooting 21.4 percent (3-of-14) and PBAU shooting 31.3 percent (5-of-16). With 1:35 left to play,
Sigrid Sandstrom finished a layup to put the Eagles ahead 45-44. The Sailfish were unable to finish their chances on the other end of the floor and neither team could add to its tally in the final minute of play, resulting in the 45-44 final.
