Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

@ERAUWBasketball Tops Barry 70-61

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's basketball team extended its unbeaten streak in the ICI Center to seven games on Wednesday with a 70-61 win over Barry (4-8, 2-3). Wednesday's result was the Eagles' third Sunshine State Conference win of the season and they now stand at 8-4 overall and 3-2 in league play.

The Eagles had four players score in doubles figures led by reigning Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week Lauren Ellenberger. Just hours after receiving the honor, Ellenberger matched her career high scoring and rebounding totals with 23 points and 11 boards and was just shy of a completing the rare triple-double, finishing with seven assists. Sarah Jones added 16 points and six rebounds, while Sigrid Sandstrom and Nikki Tucker tallied 10 points apiece.

The Eagles shook off a slow start offensively after going 1-for 4 and knocked down four straight treys to open up a 12-5 lead. The Eagles led by as many as eight points, but the last four minutes of the first period belonged to the Bucs who used a 6-0 run to close the gap to two points (17-15).

Both teams shot the ball poorly from long range in the second quarter, combining for just one made three-pointer in the period. Once again, the Eagles started slowly on the offensive end, which allowed the Bucs to take over the lead. ERAU was able to bounce back and at the 7:12 mark, a Nikki Tucker layup keyed a 12-5 run that sent the Blue and Gold into the halftime break with a 33-27 advantage.

A closely contested third quarter saw both teams improve their shooting from the field with ERAU shooting 50 percent (6-of-12) and the Bucs shooting 43.8 percent (7-of-16). The Eagles went on a 5-0 run to start the quarter, but back-to-back threes by Barry's Ida Andersson and Ashleigh Pink pulled the visitors within three with 6:01 left in the quarter. ERAU freshman Macee Sugrue knocked down a pair of long-range shots of her own and with 10 minutes left to play, the Eagle lead was eight (53-45).

The Eagles outscored the Bucs by just one point, 17-16, in the fourth quarter, and Barry managed to cut the lead to five points late in the contest. But that was as close as they would get as Sandstrom and Ellenberger each went 2-for-2 from the free throw line in the final 27 seconds of the contest to seal the win.

The Eagles will be back at the ICI Center at 4 p.m. on Saturday, hosting Saint Leo in another Sunshine State Conference contest.
