@ERAUVolleyball Sweeps Eckerd

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle volleyball team picked its fifth 3-0 sweep of the 2019 season on Friday night, defeating Eckerd (16-8, 7-6) by scores of 25-8, 25-18, and 25-19. The win moves ERAU's season record to 16-3 overall, 9-3 in conference play.
 
Kristin vom Schemm (13 kills, 12 digs, .344) and Jordan Schumacher (13 kills, 11 digs, .314) each recorded a double-double, while Melanie Canfield contributed 11 kills and six digs with a .458 attack percentage. Camden Bitter collected 16 digs while Olivia Roa had a match-high 21 digs, and Alyssa Rudd notched a double-double with 37 assists and 10 digs.
 
The Blue and Gold came out and dominated the opening set, outhitting Eckerd .425 to .000. Canfield started things off with kills on the first two points, and before long vom Schemm put down her fifth kill in the first 14 rallies to make it 10-4 Eagles. Two points later, Amelia Hartnett scored a kill that sparked a 9-0 run that pushed the lead to 19-5, and ERAU didn't let up, closing out the set by winning six of the final eight points for a 25-8 win.
 
The Eagles started strong again in set two, jumping out to an early 6-2 lead. After three straight Triton points trimmed the deficit to one, the Blue and Gold scored six in a row to make it 12-5. EC battled back to get within two points (18-16), but ERAU ended the frame on a 7-2 run to cruise to a 25-18 win.
 
In the third set, Eckerd held its largest lead of the night at 12-9, only to see Embry-Riddle rattle off five straight points to take a 14-12 lead. The Tritons hung close, pulling to within a point twice, but the Eagles were relentless, capping the night with five consecutive points to claim a 25-19 victory to secure the 3-0 sweep.
 
The Eagles return to the court tomorrow as they host Florida Southern in a 4 p.m. contest.
