Offensive Attack Leads @ERAUWBasketball to 91-76 Victory at Spring Hill

MOBILE, Ala. - The Embry-Riddle women's basketball team exuded offensive efficiency on Monday night as the Eagles got their first win of the season, 91-76 over Spring Hill on the road. Embry-Riddle (1-1) shot 57 percent from the floor, including a 53 percent clip from deep and went 10-for-11 at the free throw line while five Eagles scored career highs. ERAU used a big first quarter to sprint past SHC (0-3) and never look back.

Sarah Jones paced the Blue and Gold with 18 points on 7-for-9 shooting, recording three steals and three rebounds in addition to her scoring totals. Macee Sugrue was one of five Eagles to score a career-best as the sophomore poured in 13 points, while Shelby Bischoff, Sydney Jones and Nikki Tucker each had a dozen points. Tucker also grabbed nine boards and dished out five assists, while Bischoff had a career-high seven helpers in the win.

Imani Jones (10 points) and Keturah Balabykkeubo (9 points) joined Sugrue, Bischoff and Sydney Jones with career-high point totals.

The key moment of the game came early on in the first quarter. With the Eagles trailing 8-5, Sugrue connected on her first triple of the night, tying the game with six minutes left in the opening period. Sugrue's second three of the game came on the next Eagle possession and then Balabyekkubo got in on the fun with a trey of her own to make it 14-8.

ERAU ended the first quarter on a 21-2 run, putting the defensive pressure on the Badgers who missed their final seven shots of the quarter. The visitors shot 65 percent in the opening 10 minutes, including going a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc.

The second quarter was more of the same from the Eagles as they extended their lead all the way out to 25 when Sydney Jones grabbed an offensive board and stuck it back in for a 43-18 lead midway through the period, and every Spring Hill basket seemed to be answered by the Blue and Gold as the visitors took a 54-35 lead into the half.

Bischoff got the Eagle scoring going in the third quarter, hitting a three-pointer off a Tucker pass. Sydney Jones and Imani Jones scored the next six Eagle points before Sugrue made a jumper late in the quarter for a 65-47 ERAU cushion and the Eagles cruised into the final period with a 73-55 advantage.

Head Coach Lisa Wilson's squad never let the Badgers get back into the contest in the fourth, keeping the home team at arm's length for the final quarter and emerging with the 15-point win.

Embry-Riddle returns to Daytona Beach to host Flagler on Friday, Nov. 15 for Education Day. Tip is set for 11 a.m. at the ICI Center.
