The Eagles fell behind early in the first set, trailing by as many as six points (12-6). A Schumacher kill sparked a quick 5-0 run to make it a one-point deficit (12-11), and a few points later a double-block from Canfield and Rudd tied it at 17. Embry-Riddle finally pulled in front on a bad set that made it 20-19, and the Blue and Gold increased the lead to 23-20 on a double-block from Rudd and
Jenna Bishop. The Sailfish battled back to get within a point at 24-23, but another Schumacher kill closed out the first set at 25-23.
ERAU scored the first three points of set two and quickly stretched its lead to double-digits at 13-3. Palm Beach Atlantic went on a 9-1 spurt to get within two (15-13), but the Eagles got on a roll late in the frame, finishing the set on a 7-2 run to win it by a score of 25-17.
In the third set, Embry-Riddle used a quick 3-0 run to take a 9-7 lead, which it would maintain until a 7-1 PBA run gave the home side a 23-19 lead late. The Eagles scored the next three points to close the margin to one (23-22), but the Sailfish got back-to-back kills to clinch the set, 25-22.
Set four saw the Blue and Gold take an early 6-3 lead only to have the Sailfish go on a 6-1 run to pull ahead, 10-8. PBA had a 16-13 lead when a Sailfish ball-handling error proved to be the catalyst for a 7-0 spurt that grew into a 9-1 run, putting the Eagles in the driver's seat with a 22-17 lead. Palm Beach Atlantic got within two points at 24-22, but another ball-handling error closed the door, giving ERAU a 25-22 set win and a 3-1 match victory.
The Eagles will continue this four-match road trip with a visit to No. 25 Tampa next Friday, Nov. 25. The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
