@ERAUMLax Falls at Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's lacrosse team dropped a 25-8 decision at Tampa on Saturday. The loss moves ERAU's mark to 8-4 on the season, 0-2 in SSC play, while the Spartans improve to 6-4, 1-0 in conference.
 
Mitchell Cody led the Eagles with three goals and an assist while Gage Poindexter added three goals and a pair of ground balls. Mark Urso won 9-of-25 faceoffs and led the team with six ground balls while Lucas Fraser took the loss in goal, making eight saves on 25 shots in just over 35 minutes of action. Angelo Hanson stopped five of the 13 shots he faced in 24-plus minutes in net.
 
The Spartans opened the scoring just over two minutes into the contest and by the end of the first quarter Tampa had extended its lead to 6-0. UT pushed ahead 13-0 in the second quarter before Cody scored the first goal of the night for Embry-Riddle with 53 seconds left in the half.
 
Poindexter opened the scoring in the second half before Tampa scored six straight to build its lead to 18-2. Coleman Jacobs netted a goal with 8:07 to play in the third that sparked a 3-0 Eagle rally that included goals from Cody and Poindexter, cutting the deficit to 18-5. The Spartans got two more goals before the end of the period to make it a 20-5 score after three quarters of play.
 
Poindexter and Cody scored the first two goals in the final period, bringing the score to 20-7 with 9:31 on the clock. Tampa got the next three tallies before Gavin Madden scored ERAU's final goal of the day with 2:49 left. The Spartans added a pair of markers in the final minute of play to account for the 25-8 final score.
 
The Eagles return home next Saturday, March 30, to host No. 16 Saint Leo in another SSC matchup scheduled for 4 p.m.
