BRADENTON, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team suffered a quarterfinal loss in its first Sunshine State Conference tournament appearance on Friday. The eighth-seeded Eagles fell to top-seeded and top-ranked Barry (20-1) 4-0 at IMG Academy.
The Lady Bucs won the doubles point quickly as Verena Schmid and Jill Engelmann topped
Alexis Marshall and
Georgina Wood 6-0 at the No. 2 spot, and Carolin Schmidt and Julie Razafindranaly downed
Roberta Krvajica and
Mafalda Soares 6-2 on court three.
In singles play, Schmidt bested Blanco 6-4, 6-1 at the top spot to extend the Lady Buc lead to 2-0. Engelmann followed with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Wood, and Zuza Maciejewska scored the clinching point by holding off Krvajica 7-6 (8-6), 6-3 on court three.
Friday's loss capped the Eagles second season in the SSC at 7-13 overall.
