DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team earned its second Sunshine State Conference win of the season via a 7-0 defeat of Eckerd, Saturday at the Crotty Tennis Complex. ERAU's third shutout of the year improved the Eagles' record to 6-9 overall and 2-4 in the SSC, while the Tritons fell to 5-11 and 0-7 in the league.
It took just 20 minutes for the Eagles' third-flight tandem of
Mafalda Soares and
Alexis Marshall to put the Eagles on the board as they dispatched Cassidy Lear and Angelina Kossoff 6-0 at the third doubles position.
Jillian Hobbs and
Georgina Wood assured the Eagles of the doubles point with their 6-2 win over Bailey Koronich and Theo Schultz on court two, and
Itxaso Blanco and Robert Krvajica completed the doubles sweep with a 6-1 defeat of Taylor Selby and MaryAnn Aaron at the top spot.
Krvajica was efficient in her singles win over Koronich, giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead with her 6-1, 6-0 win on court two. Soares was next off the court following a 6-0, 6-1 defeat of Kossoff, and Marshall scored the clinching point by topping Lear 6-0, 6-1 for her first SSC singles win of the season.
After Ehrenfort notched a 6-2, 6-1 victory on court three, Wood downed Selby 6-3, 6-1 at the top spot, and
Maria Secatore secured the Eagle shutout with her first conference win of the year, courtesy of a 6-0, 6-4 defeat of Kosoff on court six.
The Eagles return to the courts at 1 p.m on Sunday to host Palm Beach Atlantic in another SSC contest.
