ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Playing in their first NCAA II game as a ranked team, the Embry-Riddle Eagles couldn't overcome an early deficit as Flagler downed the Eagles 7-1 on Tuesday night. The Eagles (22-12) wrapped up the non-conference portion of their 2019 schedule with an 11-8 out-of-league mark. The Saints (21-17) avenged an early-season loss to the Blue and Gold by jumping out to a 7-0 lead in the fourth inning and holding the Eagle offense quiet for much of the night.
The Saints got all the runs they would need in the first when they plated three runs on three hits and a big leadoff walk, going up 3-0 before the Eagles stranded a pair of runners in the second.
Flagler kept the momentum with a run in the second, chasing ERAU starter
Daniel Agramont (2-4) while going up 4-0.
The Saints utilized nine pitchers against the Eagles, each throwing an inning and all but one recording scoreless outings.
FC scored its final three runs in the fourth off a two-run homer and RBI single
The Eagles' lone run came in the eighth when
Kyle Guttveg scored on a
Josh Reynolds pinch hit single after doubling to start the frame.
Joey Gerber,
Kyle Miller and
David Romanowski pitched the final 4.1 innings without allowing a Saint run.
The Eagles return to SSC play this weekend when they host Eckerd for a three-game set. Friday night's single game is set for 6 p.m. at Sliwa Stadium before Saturday's doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
