DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Embry-Riddle Head Women's Rowing Coach
Jamie Francis announced 10 signees to the 2019-20 roster on Friday.
"I'm very excited to welcome these 10 women to the team this year," Francis said. "These women will add to the great group of positive women we have returning to the team and I can't wait see what they'll be able to acomplish."
Naomi Brooks, a native of Windermere, joins the Eagles as a recent graduate of Windermere High School. Brooks, who was born in the United Kingdom, rowed for her hometown rowing club while in high school. Brooks plans to major in Air Traffic Management at Embry-Riddle.

Charis Queary comes to Embry-Riddle from Midland, Michigan where she attended Herbert Henry Dow High School. Queary finished first in the Women's Junior Four at the Meijer State Games of Michigan Regatta. In addition to rowing, Queary played basketball and volleyball in high school, earning accolades such as Defensive Player of the Year in basketball and First Team All-Saginaw Valley Conference in volleyball. Queary intends to major in Aerospace Engineering with a goal of becoming an astronaut.

Originally from Burke, Virginia, Margaret Wathen comes to ERAU after graduating from Lake Braddock Secondary School. In high school, Wathen competed on the Varsity Crew team for two years and was on the Academic Honor Roll all four years. Wathen also was an accomplished choir singer, earning the right to participate in the 2018 All-National Honors Ensemble Mixed Choir. Wathen plans to major in Aerospace Engineering.

Veronika Zdrazil hails from Spring City, Pennsylvania, and joins the Eagles as a recent graduate of Owen J. Roberts High School. Zdrazil rowed for coach Joe Sullivan and plans to major in Aerospace Engineering at ERAU.

Maricarin Minnock joins the Blue and Gold from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is a graduate of Oakland Catholic High School. Minnock was a three-year letterwinner for her school's rowing team and was also a Global Competence Initiative Scholar and a Westinghouse Science Institute Scholar. Minnock plans to major in Aviation Business Administration.

| Helena Schmidt comes to Embry-Riddle from St. Louis, Missouri, where she recently graduated from Marquette High School. Schmidt was a two-time Missouri state champion in soccer before becoming a rower. She plans to major in Mechanical Engineering at Embry-Riddle. |

| Megan Byrne hails from Baldwin, New York where she recently graduated from Our Lady of Mercy Academy. Byrne earned a spot on the Girls Athletic Association All-Academic Team all four years as both a member of the crew team in the fall and spring and as a member of the track team in the winter. She was also a member of the Spanish National Honor Society and was MVP of FRC Robotics Team 6746 for the 2019 season. Byrne plans to major in Aerospace Engineering. |

| Originally from nearby Orlando, Helen Carey comes to ERAU after graduating from Lyman High School. In high school, Carey was named Rookie of the Year in 2017 by both the Lyman Rowing Association and Lyman High School Swimming. She also finished first in the Women's Lightweight Single at the FRSA State Sculling Championship in 2019. Carey plans to major in Aeronautical Science at ERAU. |

| Samantha Fank joins the Eagles from Gloucester, England, where she recently graduated from Gloucester High School. Fank was born in Ansbach, Germany and is fluent in both German and English. She was the captain of the crew team, won the Oarmanship Award, and finished in the top 4% of her class. Fank plans to major in Astronomy & Astrophysics at Embry-Riddle. |

| Sofia Lorenzini comes to Embry-Riddle from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania after graduating from Oakland Catholic High School, where she was teammates with fellow signee Maricarin Minnock. Lorenzini was captain of the swim team as a senior and was also a member of the National Honor Society. She plans to major in Aerospace Engineering. |
