WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle volleyball team extended its season-opening winning streak to five matches with a 3-1 (25-23, 25-22, 23-25, 25-16) win at Rollins (4-6, 1-1) on Friday night. The win gives ERAU a 5-0 record overall this season and a 1-0 mark in conference play.
Theresa Jordan led all players with a career-high 23 kills while
Jordan Schumacher tallied a double-double with 16 kills and 13 digs.
Olivia Roa collected a match-high 20 digs and
Camden Bitter added 17 digs to go along with five kills.
Alyssa Rudd notched a double-double with 53 assists and 10 digs; she also surpassed Katie Day (2000-03) to move into fifth place in program history for career assists.
The Eagles trailed for a majority of the first set but after calling a timeout trailing 22-20, the Blue and Gold rattled off five of the next six points to win the set, 25-23.
ERAU used a 6-0 run that included a pair of Jordan kills to turn a 16-14 deficit into a 20-16 lead in set two. The Tars got back to within two but Embry-Riddle was able to prevent the comeback, finishing off the set at 25-22 to go up two sets to none in the match.
The Eagles got off to a strong start in the third set, jumping out to an 8-3 lead. An 11-3 run by the Tars gave Rollins a three-point lead (14-11), but ERAU bounced back with a 4-0 run keyed by a pair of
Melanie Canfield kills to retake the lead, 20-19. Momentum then swung back to the Tars as RC scored four of the next five points to pull ahead, 23-21. The two sides then traded sideouts over the final four points, which allowed Rollins to claim the 25-23 win, pushing the match to a fourth set.
Embry-Riddle wasted no time taking control of set four, scoring four of the first five points. The Blue and Gold would lead for the entirety of the set, pulling away late for a comfortable 25-16 win to clinch the match, three sets to one.
The Eagles will have their home opener tomorrow afternoon as they play host to Florida Tech in another SSC matchup. First serve is slated for 4 p.m.
