DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's soccer team got a goal in each half of play to top Tampa 2-1, Saturday at the ERAU Soccer Stadium. Saturday's win was the Eagles' second in Sunshine State Conference play this season and improved ERAU's record to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in league play. Tampa fell to 2-5 and 2-1 with the loss.
The Eagles wasted no time in striking the first blow as the first goal came just two and half minutes into the game. The Blue and Gold worked the ball down the field and got it to
Julia Olsson just outside the box. Olsson played a quick pass to
Marie Myhrvold Seim on her right and Seim buried her second goal of the year into the left side netting to give the home team a 1-0 lead.
After the Eagle goal, Tampa picked up the intensity on the offensive end and put the Eagles on their heels, but the Blue and Gold withstood the pressure and created some dangerous chances, including a Myhrvold Seim strike that barely cleared the cross bar and a couple of shots by
Saba Amiri that forced Spartan goalkeeper Megan Bromwell to make saves to keep the deficit at one goal in the first half.
At the 64:15 mark the Eagles won their third corner kick of the night. Myhrvold Seim's set piece found
Elizabeth Allen in the middle of the box and the senior headed home her first goal of the season to put the Eagles up 2-0.
Tampa created some good opportunities in the second period, including a shot off the cross bar and another from point-blank range that was stopped by ERAU goalkeeper
Dana Ruchti. The Spartans were finally able to break through with less than two minutes left in the contest as Lisa Caprera and Moeko Morse combined to spoil the Eagle shutout.
The Eagles are back at the ERAU Soccer Stadium at 6 p.m. on Saturday to host reigning league champion Barry.
