@ERAUWBasketball Rallies for 92-86 Overtime Win Over Lynn

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's basketball team ended Lynn's seven-game home winning streak with a 92-86 come-from-behind win in overtime in Sunshine State Conference play on Saturday. The win, which also snapped ERAU's eight-game losing skid, improved the Eagles' record to 6-11 overall and 4-7 in SSC play.

Sydney Jones turned in a career performance to lead the Blue and Gold in Saturday's game. The sophomore posted her first double-double in an Embry-Riddle uniform with a career-high 22 points to go with 10 rebounds, three assists, four steals and two blocks in addition to drawing three charges. Nikki Tucker matched Jones' 22 points, while Sarah Jones and Imani Jones added 15 and 10 points, respectively.

Lynn went on a 7-0 run to start the game, but the Eagles made three straight shots, including two that resulted from steals, to make it a one-point game (7-6). After Lynn hit a jumper, Rachel Murray knocked down her first three of the afternoon to knot the score at 9-9. The Eagles stayed within four points of Lynn over the next three minutes, however, Lynn went on a 9-2 run to close out the first frame with a 27-19 lead.

Both sides were even shooting the ball in the second frame making 10 field goals apiece. Lynn knocked down two three-pointers compared to just one by the Eagles, but while ERAU was 5-for-6 from the charity stripe, the Fighting Knights  did not make a single trip to the free throw line and that disparity helped the Eagles cut the lead to four points (49-45) at the half.

After shooting 66.7 percent (10-of-15) in the second quarter, the Eagles shooting dipped to 41.7 percent (5-of-12) in the third. Lynn made nine of its 17 field goal attempts to take a 72-63 lead into the fourth frame.

Neither team shot the ball well in the fourth quarter with ERAU shooting 38.9 percent (7-of-18) and Lynn shooting 22.2 percent (4-of-18) from the field. At the 8:13 mark, Kevyn McKae made a layup to make it an eight-point (74-66) game in favor of the Fighting Knights. Shelby Bischoff answered immediately with a three-pointer and that basket triggered a 12-4 Eagle run that resulted in a 78-78 tie with 4:36 left in regulation.

Over the next four minutes, the only scoring came from Sarah Baer, whose layup put Lynn back in front, 80-78. Following a three-minute scoring drought by both teams, Imani Jones drew a foul with the 33 seconds left, which prompted a timeout by ERAU Head Coach Lisa Wilson. Coming out of the timeout, Tucker faked a pass to Bischoff then turned and drove to the basket to tie the score at 80-80 with 30 seconds left in regulation.

The Fighting Knights elected to hold the ball for the last shot, and while they got two looks at the basket, they were unable to add to their tally, sending the game into overtime.

Sydney Jones stole the show to start the overtime period. She lost the jump ball, but immediately recovered to steal the ball and score the first points of the period on a fast break layup, giving the Eagles their first lead of the contest (82-80). Jones came up with the defensive rebound on the Fighting Knights' next trip down the floor then raced to the other end of the court to finish the play with another layup to put the Eagles up by four (84-80).

The last five minutes of play saw the Eagle offense shoot 71.4 percent (5-of-7) from the field while the defense held Lynn to just two made field goals. ERAU bested Lynn 12-6 in overtime to leave Boca Raton with the six-point victory and the 2019-20 series sweep of the Fighting Knights.

Baer was the high scorer for Lynn with 22 points as the Fighting Knights fall to 11-8 overall and 6-5 in league play. Uloma Enyogasi added 20 points, while McKae finished with 11 points in the Lynn effort.

After being on the road for the last three games, the Eagles will be back in the ICI Center on Wednesday to host Rollins in another Sunshine State Conference match-up. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
