DAYTONA BEACH, Fla – The 24th-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team moved to 2-0 on the season Wednesday after picking up a 5-2 victory over Florida National at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
As was the case in the season-opener against Ave Maria, the Eagles swept the doubles matches to secure doubles point.
Juan Ortiz Couder and
Andres Donayre picked up the first win with a 6-0 defeat of Victor de la Selle and Vadim Rebaud. Fernando Alsonso and
Andrej Omeragic collected a 6-3 win against Jerry Makela and Umberto Particelli, while
Alexis Guedy and
Lucas Bos picked up the final doubles win against Justo Villanueva and Hamish Lee 6-4.
Donayre was the first to win a singles point for the Blue & Gold, taking care of Geronimo Vivero 6-0, 6-1 on court two. Guedy recorded a win against Villanueva on court three, as he went 6-3, 6-2. Ortiz Couder clinched the win for the Eagles on court one, as he defeated Joaquin Rodriguez 7-5, 6-2.
Alonso was the next to finish his match, falling to Rebaud 0-6 and 5-7, and was followed off the court by Bos, who dropped a three-set decision to Particelli 2-6, 6-1, 3-6.
Tim Loerwink picked up the Eagles' final win of the night, winning over Jules Gringon 6-1, 6-1 on court six.
The Eagles will be back in action Friday from the Crotty Tennis Complex as they host Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in a scrimmage at 3:30 p.m.
