John Triplett recorded a career-best round of 68 Tuesday.
MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's golf team started 2020 off with a second-place finish at the Eastern Florida State College Titan Invitational Tuesday. All five Eagles turned in sub-80 performances in the final round as Ken Staton's team picked up their second top-five finish of the season.
John Triplett (77-73-68) turned in a career-best score in the final round and becomes the third Eagle to card a round under 70 this season, joining
Ian Aldarondo and
Georgios Pachiadakis, who fired a 68 and 67 at the McDonough Cup to conclude the fall season. The sophomore's final round saw five birdies and 12 pars, as he finished seventh.
Aldarondo (71-75-70) recorded his second-round under-par for the event, and finished tied for fourth in a field of 80. His third round of play saw five birdies and 10 pars.
Pachiadakis (73-75-74) continued his consistent play to finish tied for 14th, turning in an effort that saw two birdies on the front nine and 12 holes of par for the round.
Korapat Dhanvarjor (75-80-78) wrapped up his first event of the year with a round that saw a birdie on the par-4 17
th to go with 13 holes where he made par. The junior finished tied for 45th overall.
Joshua Kennison (86-73-79) finished his final round with a pair of birdies and eight holes of par golf and wound up tied for 57th on the leaderboard.
Keiser (290-294-286) took home the title, while Southeastern (293-298-296) finished third. Host Eastern Florida State (299-291-299) and Central Alabama Community College (399-294-303) rounded out the top-five. Bethune-Cookman's Marcus Sundlof (72-69-68) claimed the individual title, and was joined in the top five by the Keiser duo of Carl Didrik M. Fosaas (70-73-70) and Tim Nielsen (73-75-67) and Tom Matthews (73-71-72) of Eastern Florida State, who tied with Aldarondo for fourth.
Tuesday marked the first season with multiple top-five finishes for Eagle men's golf since the 2014-15 season, when they placed fourth at the Bethune-Cookman Gary Freeman Invitational and won the Embry-Riddle Bash at the Beach.
The next event for the Blue & Gold will be February 24-25, as they travel to Hilton Head, South Carolina for the Battle at Hilton Head Island, hosted by Barton College.
